Water Reclamation

ASE treats and reuses process water to strengthen operational resilience, reduce wastewater discharge and preserve local water supplies for communities and agriculture.

Recycling every drop more than once

Uneven rainfall and limited usable runoff make water security a major challenge for Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. ASE responded by building large-scale reclamation capacity in Kaohsiung and other manufacturing regions.

Maximizing ASE water usage

ASE Kaohsiung invested NT$1.15 billion in two reclamation phases. The plant can process up to 30,000 tons per day and recover 22,500 tons at a 75% recycling rate. By April 2025, it had saved more than 40 million tons of water.

At Chungli, a NT$153 million system processes nearly 7,000 tons per day and returns about 4,900 tons to manufacturing processes.

Taiwan’s first and largest water recycling plant

Planning began in 2012 to support expansion at the Kaohsiung Nanzih Technology Park. Phase one opened in 2015, and later expansion and optimization increased treatment capacity and recycling efficiency.

Biological-treatment optimization, automated sludge discharge and improved ultrafiltration and reverse-osmosis systems raised the Kaohsiung recovery rate to 75% in 2023.

Innovative environmental education outreach

The ASE Green Technology Education Center at the K14 recycling plant introduces schools, businesses and community groups to water conservation. Augmented reality and 5G mmWave experiences make the treatment process easier to understand.
