Overview

For decades, ASE has led ESG agendas across the semiconductor supply chain.

ASE has earned global recognition for its leadership in Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) practices — but the foundation was laid long ago, as the company strategically leveraged its influence throughout the semiconductor supply chain. SEMI is a leading global industry association representing the electronics and design supply chain, with over 2,500 members; as a member for over three decades, ASE has stepped up to lead and drive impactful agendas toward common goals.

Global talent program

We helped build Taiwan's Semiconductor Academy to grow the talent pool.

ASE played a pivotal role in the global talent program, supporting initiatives to expand and diversify the talent pool amid significant workforce deficits. In Taiwan, ASE has led advocacy to align government institutions with SEMI's policies for local talent development. A milestone was the establishment of the Semiconductor Academy in Taiwan; ASE and SEMI's advocacy also influenced universities such as National Cheng Kung University and National Sun Yat-sen University to incorporate semiconductor courses into their curricula.

Global ESG

ASE is a founding member of the SEMI Semiconductor Climate Consortium.

Established in November 2022, the SCC is the first global consortium formed by companies across the semiconductor value chain to accelerate the ecosystem's reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. ASE believes active contribution to the SCC's goals can steer the industry toward progressive climate action, and currently sits on the bylaws committee that defines the governance, roles and rules of its members and problem-solving teams.

Working groups & foundation roles

ASE takes active roles across SEMI's climate, circularity and workforce efforts.

SCC — Energy Collaborative

Created by SEMI and the SCC in November 2023 to understand and eliminate obstacles to adopting low-carbon energy in Asia-Pacific. As a sponsoring partner, ASE anchors collective efforts through roundtables and fact-finding sessions.

Sustainability Initiative — Circularity Working Group

ASE co-leads the Circularity (Water and Waste) working group, established in August 2022, fostering an industry-level marketplace of best practices in water and waste management across equipment suppliers, foundries, OSATs and solution providers.

SEMI Foundation — Board of Trustees

Elected in November 2022. ASE helps raise awareness, secure funding and build support for DEI and STEM programs, and connect employers, academia, government and communities — including the 2023 Women in Semiconductor program.

Sustainable investments

We invest in sustainable start-ups and ideas that create positive change.

ASE researches, evaluates and invests in sustainable businesses pioneering solutions with positive social and environmental impact. While many of these investments may not have an immediate correlation with our core business, our vision extends further — fostering innovation and growth that spurs economic expansion and job creation, and setting new benchmarks for corporate enterprises to go above and beyond.
