Milestones
Since 1984, ASE has expanded its technology portfolio, manufacturing footprint and global partnerships to become a leader in semiconductor assembly and test.
Four decades of progress

| 1984 | Brothers Jason Chang and Richard Chang established Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. Operations began at its first factory in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. |
| 1989 | ASE Inc. began trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. |
| 1990 | Entered the semiconductor test market by acquiring ASE Test Limited. |
| 1991 | Established packaging and testing facilities in Penang, Malaysia. |
| 1998 | ASE Test Limited began trading on the Taiwan Stock Exchange through TDRs, and ASE established in-house flip-chip assembly and test capabilities. |
| 1999 | ASE Test Limited listed on NASDAQ; ASE acquired Motorola facilities in Chungli, Taiwan and Paju, Korea; and obtained a controlling interest in Universal Scientific Industrial Co., Ltd. |
| 2000 | ASE Inc. began trading on the New York Stock Exchange through ADRs and commenced volume production of flip-chip packaging. |
| 2001 | Established ASE ChungLi Intelligent Industrial Park and opened a facility capable of handling 300 mm wafer bumping. |
| 2003 | ASE IC assembly, test and materials achieved global OSAT market leadership. |
| 2004 | Acquired NEC Electronics’ IC packaging and test operation in Takahata, Japan, and established substrate and IC-module facilities in Shanghai. |
| 2005 | Started volume production of wafer-level CSP. |
| 2008 | Acquired Aimhigh’s discrete IC packaging facility in Weihai, Shandong, China. |
| 2009 | Started volume production of copper-wire bonding at ASE manufacturing sites. |
| 2010 | Acquired EEMS Test Singapore, acquired Universal Scientific Industrial, and began operations at ASE Kunshan. |
| 2011 | Operations began at ASE K12, the world’s first semiconductor assembly and test facility awarded both EEWH Diamond and LEED Platinum certifications. |
| 2013 | Acquired Wuxi Tongzhi Microelectronics from Toshiba to expand IC assembly and test services in China. |
| 2015 | ASE and TDK established ASE Embedded Electronics Inc. for SESUB® technology, and the ASE Kaohsiung water recycling plant began operations. |
| 2016 | ASE and SPIL jointly announced an agreement to establish a new holding company through mutual share exchanges. |
| 2018 | ASE Technology Holding was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (3711) and New York Stock Exchange (ASX), holding 100% of ASE and SPIL. |
| 2020 | China’s Anti-Monopoly Bureau lifted the restrictive conditions imposed on the establishment of ASE Technology Holding. |
