Overview

We take from society and give back to the community.

In ESG, social responsibility includes multiple goals, of which community relations are key. The community has played an important role in supporting ASE's growth. With the spirit of "taking from society and giving back to the community," we devote ourselves to charitable activities, educational programs and social work. As part of this commitment, ASE has established a NT$3 billion, 30-year fund dedicated to programs that protect Taiwan's environment.

Campus LED installation project

Sharing community

The Campus LED project protects schoolchildren's eyesight while saving energy.

Myopia among children aged 6 to 15 was as high as 85% (Ministry of Health and Welfare). By helping elementary and junior high schools in rural areas and communities around ASE facilities replace fluorescent tubes with LED lights, the long-term Campus LED Installation Project protects children's eyesight. In Kaohsiung and Nantou we have installed 160,000 LED tube lights in 155 schools to date — and because LED lighting is energy-saving, it also reduces carbon emissions.

Green energy in the community

A donated smart microgrid runs a school entirely on renewable energy.

ASE donated NT$10.5 million to implement a microgrid system at Shanlin Junior High School in Kaohsiung. It uses 100% renewable energy from 303 solar panels totaling 100 kWp, generating 350–400 kWh per day, stored in 18 energy-storage sets with a total capacity of 135 kWh. The school has also woven renewable energy and smart grids into its curriculum, helping students connect daily life with sustainable development.

ASE university research and talent collaboration

Industry-academia & talent

University partnerships build both our technology and the next generation of talent.

To maintain our leading position in packaging and testing, we keep investing in technology innovation and talent cultivation. Since 2012, ASE Kaohsiung has established various semiconductor packaging R&D projects with reputable universities, and since 2015 we have developed smart factories and applied AI to improve manufacturing. Close collaboration with universities gives students a greater understanding of the industry and exposure to future job opportunities.

Environmental protection

We protect Taiwan's seas, rivers and forests, and rally communities to help.

Marine protection

Since 2017 ASE has donated material and equipment to support rivers in Taoyuan City and joined beach cleanups. In 2019 we sponsored Taoyuan's first "environmental protection diving team" to clear underwater waste. In 2021 we committed NT$12 million to remove 500 metric tons of coastal and marine debris over three years. In 2022 we began 10-year coastal maintenance at Longdong, Green Island and Liuqiu. In 2023 we ran 48 ocean and 36 beach cleanups with ~1,945 participants, removing 3.97 tons of litter.

Forest adoption & afforestation

Forests cover 60% of Taiwan, but fragile geology, development and climate change have driven more landslides and land degradation. ASE supports greening and afforestation across Taiwan, including with Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park. As of 2024, 69.25 hectares of forest have been adopted and about 125,753 trees planted and maintained, with cumulative investment of NT$24.09 million — planting native, endangered and air-purifying species and accumulating a carbon sink of 3,194 tCO₂e.
